The story behind ItBox
ItBox was developed in response to the lessons of the Grenfell tragedy, where lives could have been saved had resident voices been heard. Dame Judith Hackitt, who led The Independent Review, stated that the “culture of indifference” around resident safety needs to end. Crucially, 15 people who died at Grenfell had disabilities, underscoring the critical need for robust resident engagement and Personal Evacuation Plan management. All this resonated with the ItBox team, who believe that every resident deserves to feel safe in their home and inspired us to develop the platform.
Alongside this, in our consultancy work auditing property managers countrywide, we saw clients struggling to navigate the many challenges that come with fulfilling complex resident engagement obligations. Many clients had no resident engagement strategy in place at all, while others were investing in commissioning consultants to write one-off, generic documents. Also, delivering the strategy was confusing, with property teams using four or even five different methods of communication, from email and SharePoint to portals and paper. Without a single digital framework to deliver and track engagement or evidence compliance, duty holders were exposed to potential risk should an incident occur, or the regulator investigate.
We knew there had to be a better approach, so we built ItBox, a platform and resident app created by former property managers to solve problems surrounding resident engagement compliance and make sure no resident is left behind.
